Glazes

Just like each form made by Sinéad Cleary Studio is unique, so are glazes and their finishes. Each glaze has a range of possible outcomes that are dependent upon their chemical formula, application method + thickness, firing temperature, and more. While smaller pieces are able to be dipped, resulting in an overall smoother surface, larger pieces require handpainted application, which may result in a more varied surface. Please understand that the test tiles below may not show the full depth or variation among the glazes. Test tiles can be provided upon request for a small fee + shipping.

Satin White

Satin White is a food-safe satin finish glaze that has an overall smooth texture, with some speckling of the clay body poking out underneath.

Satin Black

Satin Black is a food-safe satin finish glaze that has an overall smooth texture, with some white speckling throughout.

Satin Clear

Satin Clear is a food-safe satin finish glaze that has an overall smooth texture, with high visibility of the clay body underneath the glaze.

Crackle White

Crackle White is a highly textural glaze that is non-porous, but not food-safe.

Crackle Black

Crackle Black is a highly textural glaze that is non-porous, but not food-safe.

Raw Speckle

Raw Speckle is an unglazed white clay. It gives a natural, tactile feeling to a piece. Pieces that require it for use will be glazed in Clear Satin on the inside so they can still be used to hold liquid, while the outside will be in Raw Speckle. Anywhere there is no glaze on an object in Raw Speckle means it is porous.

Light Magma

Light Magma is a highly textural, crater-like glaze. It is non-porous, but not food-safe.

Dark Magma

Dark Magma is a highly textural, crater-like glaze. It is non-porous, but not food-safe.

Gunmetal

Gunmetal is a food-safe gloss finish glaze that has an overall smooth texture with a striking metallic appearance.
Light Shino

Light Shino is a food-safe gloss finish glaze that has an overall smooth texture, with some speckling throughout and variation in color due to the chemical nature of the glaze itself. A rust-like color appears in the glaze on the edges of an object.

Matcha Matte

Matcha Matte is a food-safe matte finish glaze that has an overall smooth texture, with variation in color depending on the chemical reactions that take place during firing.
